Konica Minolta continues its Leader status in Quocirca’s assessment of the print security market

| 26 July 2024

Konica Minolta is proud to announce that it has retained its leading position in Quocirca’s 2024 assessment of the print security market. The company has been recognised for the advances it has made in its multi-layered approach to print security, citing 'secure and robust product design'; 'customised security solutions and services such as bizhub SECURE', and support customers through the automation of security.

In the new report ‘Print Security Landscape, 2024 Mitigating the print infrastructure as a threat vector’, published in July, Quocirca – a global market insight and research firm specialising in the convergence of print and digital technologies in the future workplace – acknowledges that print and MFP manufacturers are continuing to ‘enhance and deepen’ their security focus, with the analyst stating, ‘Konica Minolta products are a suitable choice for companies with high data security requirements.’

Research published in the report indicates that print security continues to climb the security agenda, with office printing rising from eighth place last year to third in 2024. This is important given that 67% of organisations reported data losses due to unsecured print processes in the past 12 months, and the cost of these breaches has risen by over £250,000 (~ EUR297,000) to over £1m (~EUR1.19m) (compared to £743,000 (~ EUR884,000) in 2023). The good news is that organisations are making progress, with 30% saying it is very or somewhat difficult to keep up with print security demands, compared to 39% in 2023.

When ranking a ‘Leader’ Quocirca looks at whether the vendor has a strong strategic vision and a comprehensive print security product and service offering. It also considers whether significant investment has been made in its hardware, solutions, and services portfolio, as well as demonstrating a strong vision for future strategy.

The strengths of Konica Minolta highlighted by Quocirca in the report include its ‘robust hardware and software security’, a ‘multi-layered solutions portfolio’ and mature ‘IT security expertise’ which the analyst says, ‘can help customers with information security services beyond the print environment’.

In March 2024, Konica Minolta demonstrated its investment in hardware by further expanding its offering with the launch of 21 next-generation bizhub i-Series MFPs (multifunctional printers) and printers. These GDPR and HCD-PP compliant and ISO 15408-certified devices are recognised by Quocirca for their enhanced SIEM capabilities with the provision of real-time security alerts, improved virus and malware protection (embedded Bitdefender), as well as the ability to set up devices with custom workflows to prevent brute force attack protection.

The report also highlights the strength of Konica Minolta’s service portfolio, with bizhub SECURE providing additional assurance that devices are highly secure, and the cloud-based Shield Guard platform that offers remote device security monitoring and management. In addition to Shield Guard, Konica Minolta’s wider cloud security portfolio is acknowledged, with the analyst observing how it, ‘includes multiple options to support and increase customers’ security’.
